Lake Champlain Maritime Museum is one of the most active and diverse organizations of it’s kind in our
region. With their main facilities located at Basin Harbor near Vergennes, VT and a satellite location on
the Burlington, VT waterfront, the museum offers exemplary interpretation of the maritime history of the
lake and a multitude of courses, workshops and special events. The Maritime Research Institute, which is exploration arm of the museum, is actively involved in the discovery, research and preservation of Lake Champlain’s immense underwater resources. It is this research that allowed the construction of the 1862 Class Schooner Lois McClure. Launched in 2004, she is the Museum’s flagship and good - will ambassador. After an extensive tour throughout northeast inland waters last season, she is open to free public visitation at Burlington’s Perkins Pier during the spring and summer and will then engage in
a Northern Lake Tour during the fall of 2006.
