HERE COMES
THE SPRING
2018 FISHING
SEASON ON
THE HUDSON
RIVER
It begins with Striped Bass fishing, contests and events celebrating
the spring spawning run of these wonderful game fish up the
Hudson River to spawn.
It continues with catfish contests through the spring, summer and
fall. Yes, catfish have become the mainstay of fishing contests on
the Hudson River, and for good reason.
They are very easy to catch, especially for children who have never
caught a fish in their young lives, they are very strong and can be
caught and released with very little harm to the fish, and most
importantly there are no restrictions on size limits, bag limits or
anything else.
For those reasons, restaurants such as Billy Joe’s Rib Works
in Newburgh, NY with its huge deck, friendly atmosphere, and
supportive management has turned into a home base for children’s
catfish contests on the Hudson River.
Coupled with the Hudson River Fisherman’s Association and their
very talented group of volunteers, you have a recipe for success.
Last years United Way Catfish Derby in July proved the value of
“doing it right”
With these catfish contests. Twenty three thousand dollars was
raised for worthy causes in Columbia and Greene Counties by
focusing on catfish as the species of choice for these contests.
This year, 2018 will see many more up and down the Hudson River
including the first river wide, New York Harbor to Albany CATFISH
CHAOS CONTEST
Being developed by the Hudson River Fisherman’s Association
wonderful
group of volunteers.
By the Feb/March issue most of these contests will be listed so
that you can plan your summer season of excitement.
