information in Clifton Park, Waterford, Mechanicville and
Schuylerville, much of it also available online. If your
plans involve trailering the boat up, you can even stop at
the Southern Saratoga Information Center at the Clifton
Park Rest Area (between Exits 9-10) on the I-87 Northway.
With local knowledge, you’ll knowwhich restaurant serves
your favorite or is open later, where the nearby hotels are,
how to find trails, historic artifacts, and other services.
Your trip will come alive as you experience the hidden
stories not found in most history books about the Battle
of Saratoga, the Industrial Revolution or the Information
Age. You’ll catch fish in secluded, quiet waters or explore
a trail that once carried Sal the Mule and his compatriots
for hundreds of miles, carefully maintained over a century
after its decommissioning.
To get started, visit
www.southernsaratoga.orgor call
the Southern Saratoga Information Center at (518) 371-
3763. You can also visit places like the Waterford Harbor
Visitors Center, the CSSC’s Clifton Park and Waterford
offices, the Mechanicville City Dock bulletin board or the
Schuyler Yacht Basin. There are plenty of opportunities
to explore upstate waters and communities in 2018!
Locals all know the best place to get sweet treats
in Mechanicville is Park Avenue Confectionary
(221 Park Avenue, (518) 664-3066, www.
parkavenueconfectionary.com ). Here owner Rebecca
Tollisen shows off some of her fall creations. Stop in
to keep your sweet tooth satisfied all year long!
Local knowledge comes in handy when big changes happen along
the waterfront. Jason Young (right), pictured with the author,
made a big move over the winter, purchasing the Schuyler Yacht
Basin and bringing Clark’s Steakhouse right to the shoreline (see
dock and dine section for more info). Recently completed, both
the Yacht Basin and Clark’s are open and ready for your visit!
