The Corning GlassBarge is much more than an entity
on its own. It sets an example for others to emulate,
educate and enjoy the Erie Canal in all its interesting
aspects.
The Corning Museum of Glass will spend four months
along New York State waterways with GlassBarge,
stopping in ports on the Hudson River in May and
June, the Erie Canal in July and August, and the
Finger Lakes in September
In 2017, GlassBarge was tested on the Erie Canal
in Fairport, Seneca Falls, and Syracuse Inner Harbor.
Now it is ready with a complete presentation for every
stop it makes on the Hudson River and the Erie Canal
in 2018.
There is an advance team that develops the
relationship at each stop along the way. This assures
all that are involved that each stop will be a success.

comfortable environment to travel on, as compared to
the dirty, dusty, muddy, noisy offering of roads of that
time, made the Erie Canal the “wonder of the day”!
It would not be until after World War Two and the
development of the High Speed highway system, that
the Erie Canal would become surpassed in an efficient
method of moving supplies, people and goods more
directly than the Erie Canal.
